New Strategic Partnership Between Floating Pontoon Specialists
Scottish
floating pontoon manufacturer Gael Force has established a partnership with modular
pontoon and marina equipment specialist The Pontoon & Dock Company to represent
Gael Force’s SeaHaven
range of floating pontoons, concrete breakwaters and gangways in marina markets
across England, Wales, Channel Isles and Isle of Man.
The SeaHaven
range includes a standard model of pontoon for inland waterways and less
exposed locations, and a robust, heavy duty model for exposed and coastal
locations. Last year, Gael Force
utilised its 35 years of experience in concrete production at its UK facility to
develop and produce their first set of large floating concrete breakwaters,
meaning that they are currently the UK’s only producer of large floating
concrete breakwaters. The pontoons can
be enhanced with their SeaSpan gangways and SeaHaven Pontoon Fingers.
Gael Force
Sales Director Jamie Young said, “For
over 25 years, we have been servicing the marina market. Our partnership with Pontoon & Dock is
one which provides an excellent fit within our plans to extend our offering to marina
operators across the wider UK – to bring a robustly manufactured product to the
market and add real value to marinas. We
have enjoyed a close working relationship with Pontoon & Dock in recent
years and we are more than confident that their knowledge and extensive network
in this market, supplemented by their excellent professional manner, will
enable us achieve our aims to turn marina concepts into reality.”
Pontoon
& Dock Managing Director Dan Bryant commented, “Our partnership with Gael Force Group is part
of an ongoing commitment to offer quality pontoon to customers throughout the
UK. Gael Force have experienced significant success with the SeaHaven range and
we look forward to working closely with the team. It will be a fantastic
opportunity to develop SeaHaven within the marine industry, the pontoons offer
superb stability and are a safe haven for leisure and commercial craft within a
marina. Our combined knowledge and experience in this industry will allow us to
provide an array of options for both new and existing customers.”

Eeuwe De Jong Shipyard Receive New Roodberg Cradle Transporter
The Scheepsmotoren Eeuwe de Jong
shipyard in the Frisian town of Heeg have received their new Roodberg CT25SD Cradle Transporter. The new Transporter is the answer to
securely and rapidly moving heavier yachts over both rough and paved boatyard
terrain. "It's an all-rounder" deemed Eeuwe de Jong.
The new Transporter can be
described as a great all-rounder. Yachts of up to 25 tonnes can be moved around any
shipyard problem free. Rough ground, kerbs are no
longer a problem thanks to the exclusive Roodberg design with double tandem
wheels. The system lowers and spreads the weight on the ground surface,
enabling humps and bumps to be negotiated without jolts. Eeuwe de Jong
explains: "This ensures the best support for the boat’s hull and also
guarantees faster and safer work when moving." De Jong has been using these special Roodberg Transporters for many years and is once again enthusiastic
about his latest boatyard acquisition.

The Transporter has a range of unique
and practical qualities. The concept consists of a ‘one man operation system’,
and indeed one man can perform the entire transport operation with almost any
towing vehicle. A number of safety enhancing and practical features are
included, such as the 'hydraulically operated drawbar' for stable and safe
parking. This easy to operate drawbar also increases profit, as every cm² of
the yard can be used for boat storage. The 'top step storage', used for
transporting the required tools and materials, completes this new Transporter.
Eeuwe de Jong: "They’ve truly
thought of everything in this trailer. Moving boats around the boatyard has
never been easier. And of course it frees up time to spend on my own expertise:
the care and maintenance of boat engines and propellers."

Bridge Stabilisation Works In West Yorkshire
Client: BAM Nuttal Ltd
Project: Linton Bridge Stabilisation Works
Neil Peters from Bam Nuttal approached us to design a solution for their bridge stabilisation works. This was all part of a £4.5m repair work, approved by senior councillors at Leeds city council. The bridge had dropped 20cm after floodwater undermined its foundations. More than 100 bridges were damaged by floods in West Yorkshire.
Councillor Richard Lewis said: “I think everyone now realises the challenge of repairing Linton Bridge is considerable and requires detailed and complex work, so is not something that can be done quickly.” The method for this works was to build a temporary arch support system. This would be supported by 2 off 17 tonne bridge trusses built onto 4 temporary steel tubular piles filled with concrete.
The solution that Pontoon and Dock had to come up with was to float the 17 tonne trusses underneath the bridge so the crane could lift and connect onto the support system bases. After many discussions, we decided on a 29m x 2.5m double stacked EZ Dock pontoon with 4 outrigger pontoons double stacked to add stability for when the weight was added. This pontoon would give us a floating capacity of some 60 tonnes. Steel fenders were welded to the steel support bases, these were fixed to act as a safety barrier to stop the whole structure from tipping when in motion. Bam Nuttal had brought in a 500 Tonne mobile Mammoet Crane to carry out all lifting operations.
The whole operation from lifting on the bridge trusses, floating into position and lifting back up onto the support bases was a huge success with no issues at all. Neil Peters was so impressed by our solution that they decided to increase the hire as they found it was much easier to access the arch support to continue with their works. Due to the success of the Linton Road Bridge project, Simon Nadin, one of the Partners and Directors of The Pontoon and Dock Company was asked to attend an awards ceremony with Bam Nuttal. Bam Nuttal and Mott MacDonald have both been recognised by Leeds City Council as Partner of the Year. The award was given for works at Leeds Flood Alleviation and Linton Bridge.
Since the installation at Linton Bridge, Neil Peters has already forwarded our details to other departments in other counties in the UK and already we have received additional projects to quote.
This success is down to all staff at Pontoon and Dock. Together we can make it work! Well Done.

Congratulations to AirBerth Boat Lifts!
AirBerth®
Boat Lifts is proud to announce that it has won the Maritime Australia Limited
- Civil Industry National Innovation Award 2015 yesterday afternoon (October 6th,
2015) at the Sydney Exhibition Centre - Glebe.
"We
are extremely honoured to be recognised for the work we are doing bringing
Australian innovation to the commercial and maritime space."
The
award recognises the achievements of SMEs in commercialising innovation in the
maritime industry and is widely recognised by commercial and maritime operators
as well as the defence industry.
AirBerth® manufactures a range of Boat Lifting Systems made entirely
from High Density Polyethylene, a material impervious to the damaging effects of marine growth or electrolysis. Raising the boat out of the water
on an AirBerth® then prolongs the life of the boat by eliminating the need to
anti-foul the boat and also protects the metal parts such as propellers and
rudders from electrolysis damage.
AirBerth has many customers around the world including:
·
Border Force (Ex Australian Customs);
·
Queensland National Parks Sport and Recreation
·
Marine Rescue NSW;
·

Managing Director Alex Chan made the following comments:
“Winning an award like this recognises the effort of many, in
particular, I have to thank our team at AirBerth particularly Justin Lye our
Marketing Manager; Jürgen König our Operations Manager and Tim Chan our Finance
Manager, for their hard work and persistence.”
“We must also acknowledge the great service and loyalty of our
international distributor network, which extends over 30 countries across the
globe, many of whom have been partnering with us for over 15 years.”
Finally our association with AIMEX (Australian International Marine
Exporter) and the newly formed ACMG (Australian Commercial Marine Group) has
been a key part of our export success overseas.”
He also added:
“However, we would not be where we are without the support of the most
important people in our business, our customers. Their continued belief in our
product and our service is the real testament to where we are today and also
where we are heading.”
Winning the 2015 Maritime Australia Limited – Civil Industry National
